About Sarah Lydecker
Sarah Lydecker is a rock climbing instructor, artist, and Certified Recovery Mentor based in Portland, Oregon. She is currently looking for work.
Sarah has been rock climbing for over a decade now. She learned how to climb in an all-women’s mountaineering course back in 2014 and is forever grateful that she was introduced to adventure sports by strong, capable women mentors. After that course, Sarah hit the road and spent time as a dirtbag climber, living out of her truck with her dog Ollie. She has climbed in 12 states and 5 countries.
In 2015, Sarah began volunteering with youth outreach climbing groups and discovered she had a passion for teaching climbing skills. She learned that climbing can be an opportunity to bring people together and has the transformative power to inspire people to believe in themselves.
Sarah started working professionally in the climbing world in 2019, when she joined the Mazamas to mange their climbing wall for their summer youth programs.
In 2022, Sarah got her dream job as the Lead Climbing Instructor for a new nonprofit called Peak Recovery PNW, where she designed course curriculum, vetted and trained volunteers, and ran outdoor climbing programming for adults in recovery from substance use and mental health challenges. In 2024, Sarah was then promoted to Program Coordinator for Peak Recovery and took on a larger roll in the organization developing programming.
In her past life, Sarah spent 10 years working in the Portland Art and Film scene.
Sarah is an American Mountain Guides Single Pitch Instructor and is ecstatic to be accepted into the fall All-Womens Rock Guide Course for the AMGA, this will be the first time in the last 9 years that Sarah has had climbing instruction from other women. Sarah is passionate about women working together to lift each other up, recovery, and for climbing as a vehicle for deep personal change and empowerment. She is actively looking for work and would love to join your team or band together and create something new.
